Race Weekend #12: Parts for Trucks 200 at Scotia Speedworld

The final race of the year at Scotia Speedworld was the Parts for Trucks 200. There was so much anticipation leading up to this event that the entire O-Team was on the edge of their seats all week – except Shawn. Shawn was cool, calm, & collected – reminding us all that it was just another race. During early Saturday morning practice the car was fast but not quite perfect. With some adjustments the team worked at getting the car to the best it could be & focused on ensuring everything was checked & double-checked – not wanting a mechanical failure to be the cause of a lost Championship. During time trials Shawn was 2nd quick with a time of 14.322 seconds. He then drew 6th for his starting position for the Dash and finished 3rd. During the main feature, Shawn was conservative with the car, trying to stay out of trouble and finish the race. At halfway he was in 7th position and had four new tires to put on the car. He continued the race in 6th-7th position until there was 20 laps to go when it looked like he might head to the front. With a lot of tight racing in the front of the pack Shawn maintained 5th position for the race and won his long sought after Maritime Pro Stock Tour Championship! Way to go Shawn!!! After finishing 4th, 9th, 2nd, & 3rd in Points over the last four years, Shawn can finally add a Championship to his accomplishments. Thanks you to our sponsors and to all of the fans for your support and especially to the pit crew for their hard work this season. Without their hard work this fantastic season wouldn’t have been possible. Lastly a big thank you to all who helped Shawn get to where he is today – the list is long but you know who you are – THANKS A MILLION!!!  We can’t wait for 2010!!!

Race Weekend #11: Peterbilt 250 at Speedway 660

The big Peterbilt 250 race weekend at Speedway 660 in Geary once again did not disappoint. WOW – what a crowd! Not only were there A TON of fans there, but an impressive car count as well – 43 pro stock teams showed up for the race including NASCAR’s Sterling Marlin. During practice on Saturday, the #0 Dexter Construction Impala SS was turning good and the team tried a few different setups trying to get the most speed possible out of the car. On race day, Sunday September 6th, the #0 car felt good to Shawn and he was confident he had a good piece to compete with during the race. With no time trials, Shawn drew the 4th starting position in the 3rd heat. The top four cars qualified for the race out of each heat so the heats were definitely racy! Shawn finished 2nd in his heat, giving him a great 7th place starting position for the Peterbilt 250. During the race Shawn maintained his position in the top five for the majority of the race, saving the car for when it really mattered. During a caution on lap 125 Shawn, like many drivers, pitted for fuel and new tires. Knowing his 2nd set of tires were the better set, Shawn came out on the track feeling confident in his ability to get the job done. Shawn quickly moved to the front and was on the leader, Johnny Clark’s bumper, for the most of 40 laps or so. On lap 224, a caution was thrown for reported oil on the track, at which time Lonnie Sommerville pitted for fresh tires. With lapped cars being pulled with 30 laps to go or less, Lonnie came back out on the track in the top ten with determination. Shawn passed Johnny Clark for the lead on the restart and thought he was heading for a big win, what he didn’t know was Lonnie was passing cars easily on his fresh rubber and quickly gaining ground. With 10 laps to go Lonnie took the lead & never looked back. Although 2nd place is nothing to be ashamed of, Shawn had really hoped to get his team in Victory Lane. Next week is the final points race of the year & Shawn is heading into it on top – again. Let’s hope this year will be his year to be Maritime Pro Stock Champion!

Race Weekend #10: Parts for Trucks 100 at Riverside Speedway

On August 22nd, the Maritime Pro Stock Tour made their final visit to Riverside Speedway for the 2009 season. Shawn had been anxiously awaiting to revisit the fast Antigonish track all week. With another win slipping through his fingers the week before, Shawn and the #0 Team were more determined than ever to win a race. It appeared the #0 Impala SS was just as determined to win as the car was perfect all day and by far the fastest during practice. Shawn time trialed quickest with a time of 14.292 seconds in the 28-car field. He drew 8th for the Dash in which he finished 7th. During the main feature, in a matter of 20 or so laps, Shawn was up to 3rd place. After working his way by the #99 of Craig Slaunwhite he then caught and passed #44 Wayne Smith for the lead on lap 49. Shawn never let that lead go for the remaining 51 laps of the race, maintaining his points lead and finally getting his first win of 2009!!! Way to go Shawn! With just 19 points separating Shawn and 2nd place position Wayne Smith, the final race at Scotia Speedworld will be one you definitely don't want to miss. But first, it's off to Speedway 660 on Labour Day weekend for the exciting Peterbilt 250!

Race Weekend #9: Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld

A rescheduled race seen the Maritime Pro Stock Tour at Scotia Speedworld for two weeks in a row, rather than heading off to Shediac's Centre for Speed. On August 15th, the Dexter Construction Impala SS was in good shape all day. Shawn was happy with the handling off the car and the day's extreme heat seen him practice at a minimum and skip out on the final practice of the day altogether. Shawn time trialed 2nd quickest and drew 6th for the Dash. During the Dash there was no question the car was hooked up. It took Shawn almost no time at all to catch up to leader Wayne Smith during the Main Feature but it took a little longer for him to get by him. Once he did it looked as though Shawn would runaway with his first win of the season. Unfortunately, a caution with 5 laps to go seen Smith get a jump on Shawn for the restart and Shawn not have enough time to catch him to regain the lead. A 2nd place finish was not what Shawn was looking for, but he would take it none the less.

Race Weekend #8: Atlantic Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld

Shawn didn't have to travel far this weekend as he was back to his home-track for the annual Atlantic Cat 250 weekend. Friday night was rain-delayed qualifying for the 25 Maritime Pro Stock Tour drivers that pieced their cars back together after a short week and a long race in PEI. The #0 Dexter Construction Impala SS was working good in practice and time trialed not too bad either (7th quickest). With Lady Luck on his side, Shawn drew the pole position for the 10-lap Dash and held onto the lead to capture the pole for the main feature for Saturday. With beautiful weather on Saturday, the car was working well in practice and started off good in the main feature. Shawn led for 16 or so laps and then decided to ride the race out - saving his brakes and the hard racing for when he would need it. Staying in the top four until the halfway 5 minute caution, Shawn was feeling confident in the car's ability for the second half. Unfortunately, he got a left rear flat tire and no caution. Shawn then caused a caution to prevent himself from going down multiple laps and was told he would remain down a lap for the remainder of the race for bringing out the caution. Therefore, 12th was the best he could finish.

Weekend #7: Parts for Trucks/Lucas Oil 200 at Raceway Park

The 0-Team travelled back to the Island for the 2nd time this year but did get to race this time around! The race was doubled up to make up for the rained out race in June, which resulted in double trouble. 200 laps at Raceway Park made for an extremely looong race and waaay too many cautions. However, we did get the race in on Saturday night and it didn't turn out as bad for the Dexter Construction team as it did for others. Shawn was fast in practice all day and time trialed 6th quickest. He then drew 9th in the Draw for the Dash and finished 9th in the Dash. The Ledwidge Lumber Impala SS was not bad during the long main feature, however it could have been better near the end. With 60 or so laps to go, Shawn found himself in 3rd place and was hoping for a good run to race for the lead. Unfortunately, the car just wasn't handling as it should and he had to settle for 7th in the end. After the race, it was discovered that a bleeder stuck on the left rear tire and the air was down to just 8lbs at the end of the race - which definitely would've contributed to the poor handling of the car. Team Turple is now looking forward to the Atlantic Cat 250 weekend at Scotia Speedworld this coming Friday & Saturday!

Race Weekend #6: Parts for Trucks 100 at Speedway 660

On Saturday, July 25th, yes I said that correctly - we finally raced on a Saturday night!!! The Maritime Pro Stock Tour completed the Parts for Trucks 100. The 0-Team arrived with the Chevrolet Impala SS that was last raced at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway earlier this year. During practice, the car was loose - too loose. With various adjustments the car improved, and Shawn qualified 9th quickest. He drew 10th for the Dash and finished 9th. The main feature had a slow start with many cautions, but eventually got underway with a few decent green flag runs. The Dexter Construction Impala SS came in nicely during the race, with Shawn sticking around the top five positions. Near the end of the race a red flag stop had us worried the car might lose its momentum, but if anything the car was just as good if not better. Shawn finished on the outside of John Flemming - wishing he had another 5-10 laps to reel in the leader. All in all, a close race upfront and a great one to watch - minus all of the cautions.

Race Weekend #5: IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway

The long anticipated IWK 250 weekend at Riverside Speedway July 17-19th proved to be a let down. Between the up & down weather and crashes into some very hard concrete walls, it was a tough one. Shawn was set to race the Sportsman 100 Friday night in Billy Beaton's #17 car when during practice, the left front brake rotor broke and propelled Shawn hard into the wall. The fuel pump on the #17 busted as a result of the crash - catching the car on fire. Definitely not how Shawn wanted to start off the weekend. Saturday was a better day with the #0 being 2nd fastest in practice all day. During time trials, the Dexter Construction Impala SS bottomed out - sliding the car up the track. Shawn was still able to place 3rd fastest so he knew the car was going to be good. Then the heavy mist came and didn't leave, postponing the race until Sunday afternoon. Sunday was a sunny & hot day - much different then Saturday - so we weren't sure how the car would react. Not bad apparently, as Shawn was fastest in practice and posted two fast times of 14.23 seconds and 14.25 seconds. Shawn started 5th in the Dash as a result of the draw the night before & won! Earning pole position for the main race. As the IWK 250 got underway, it became apparent that it was going to be a looooong day. Shawn stayed up front in the top four positions, taking it easy on the car to save it for the end when grip and power would be needed for a win. After a hard rain shower, mandatory 10 minute caution, and a long green flag run - Shawn was ready to move to the front. As he raced his way to 2nd - hoping to have enough laps left to battle for the win, his day was ended by a slower car that apparently didn't want to lose. With only 10 laps remaining and then just 9 cars left from the 32-car field, Shawn had an 11th place finish out of a truly raw deal. Since that car was wrecked, Shawn and the 0-Team are preparing the back-up car used earlier this year in the Beech Ridge PASS race for the 100 lap race at Speedway 660 in the Geary Woods. Please god let it be a dry weekend!

Race Weekend #4: Forbes Chevrolet 100 at Scotia Speedworld

After one too many missed race weekends because of poor weather forecasts, the Maritime Pro Stock Tour finally got a rain-delayed race in at Scotia Speedworld on Sunday, July 5th. The Dexter Construction Impala SS was decent on Saturday and Shawn posted 2nd fastest time in time trials followed by an unlucky draw for the Dash: 10th. The racing action was then delayed after time trials Saturday night until Sunday afternoon. During the Dash Shawn gained a few positions and ended up with a 7th place starting position for the Main Feature. The car was good and Shawn stuck out the race in the top five for most of the night. After a couple of restarts with only 12 - 10 laps left, the car lost its grip and just couldn't stick like earlier in the race. Shawn and the team were just happy to be racing so a 4th place finish was nothing to hang our heads about. Here's hoping for sunny race days ahead!

Race Weekend #3: Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100 at Riverside Speedway

After a rain-out on Saturday, the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100 got underway at Riverside Speedway on Sunday, June 7. Shawn had luckily been to Riverside Speedway before Saturday for some testing, and found the car to be turning really well. With the fastest car during the first two practices Sunday, Shawn time trialed 2nd fastest with a time of 14.437 seconds. He then drew 7th for the Dash, and finished 9th. The main feature race had only two cautions meaning a lot of green flag laps. Shawn battled in 3rd and 2nd position for the majority of the race, and then was rewarded with a caution with 12 laps to go - meaning a side by side restart with leader Shawn Tucker. Tucker had led the whole race and for good reason - he easily pulled away for the win with a great working car. Runner-up for race #2 and looking forward to #3.

Race Weekend #2: Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld

Well the Maritime Pro Stock Tour's season is finally underway with the first race taking place at Shawn's home track: Scotia Speedworld. Saturday, May 23 was a beautiful day and the pits were full of beautiful brand new cars. Unfortunately, many of the cars didn't stay pristine for long. Even though Shawn's car wasn't handling like he wanted it to - he luckily stayed out of all the wrecks. All day during practice the #0 Dexter Construction Impala SS was tight. The car just wouldn't roll through the turns like it should and frustration followed. Shawn did time trial 10th quickest with a time of 14.447 seconds and finished 10th in the Dash. Even though Shawn had poor handling, he didn't make out too bad during the feature. Shawn went from 8th to 4th as a result of a few crashes and stayed there much of the race. Shawn settled into 6th position and brought the car home in one piece - not a bad start to 2009. But the 0-Team will definitely be hoping for a better car in Antigonish on June 6th.

Race Weekend #1: New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway

The 0-Team was extremely excited to start the 2009 race season in the U.S.A. again this year. The friendly folks in Maine were all to happy to have us at the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North 2nd race of the season at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on May 2. All day Friday we practiced and Shawn was able to get a real good feel for the track. The car was not far off the mark by the end of the day and Shawn felt good about race day. On Saturday, things didn't start out bad with the team trying a few different things and getting the car just the way Shawn wanted it to be. Shawn drew a good starting position - 5th in the first heat. Six cars were taken from each heat and Shawn finished 4th in the heat but found the car tight. With a few changes, Shawn was ready for the feature but right from the get-go, the car - and the track - were extremely tight. A few pit stops with a few small changes later, the car and track were still extremely tight. Shawn was able to finish the quick race on the lead lap and in 15th. Congratulations to Seth Holbrook on another win ;) The Dexter Construction Team is now looking forward to racing back in Canada - starting at Scotia Speedworld on May 23rd - let's hope for sunny weather!

2008 Race Results

Race Weekend #15: Parts for Trucks 200 at Scotia Speedworld

The final points race of the season was by far an exciting one. Knowing Shawn's luck with final points races - I for one was not looking forward to it. Every year something terrible goes wrong and he doesn't finish well if at all. Finally 2008 saw a good final race for Shawn and he was able to maintain his final point position of third. Time trialing 13th with a time of 14.810 seconds, Shawn qualified for the race finishing 2nd in the 1st heat meaning a 13th starting position. Shawn started the race well until having to go to the back, he then worked his way back up to the front - all the way to 2nd at the halfway mark. Shawn quickly grabbed the lead after the halfway restart and then battled it out with a number of the top drivers to keep the lead. In the end it would be Shawn and his best racing buddy Craig Slaunwhite battling for the win. Getting loose coming out of turn 2 Craig slipped by Shawn with two laps to go and snagged the win. What a finish to an action-packed season!

Race Weekend #14: Lucas Oil 150 at Centre for Speed

The rain-delayed Lucas Oil 150 at the Centre for Speed got underway in Shediac, NB on Sept 6, with the heats completed ahead of time, Shawn was on the pole of the main feature as rain threatened all day. Race control decided to run the 150 as twin 75 laps races to ensure the race got at least until halfway. Shawn's car faded fast at the track being much too tight and at halfway he found himself back around 7th. Shawn made a few adjustments to try and help the car at halfway and improved the car quite a bit. As he was making his way back to the front a caution was brought out and Shawn's right rear bleeder on the car stuck making the car much too loose. Shawn ended up finishing the race in 7th.

Race Weekend #13: Peterbilt 250 at Speedway 660

As always the Labour day weekend trip to Speedway 660 in Geary, NB, didn't disappoint. Great fans, awesome competition, good weather, and a well-organized weekend on behalf of Speedway 660 staff made for a memorable race weekend. Shawn and the #0 team were excited for the race until practice on Saturday. The Dexter Construction Impala SS wasn't handling the way it should've been so the team ended up changing the entire setup Saturday night before Sunday's race. The car still was not what Shawn wanted it to be on Sunday but it felt drive-able. Drawing 6th in the 4th heat, Shawn needed a little luck and a decent car to get into the top four in order to qualify for the race. After a car spun in front of Shawn in the heat and with no caution, he had to run the rest of the pack down. Shawn was able to secure the 4th position in the heat, earning a qualifying spot in the race and a starting position of 16th. During the race the car was not too bad and Shawn began to pick the cars off one by one. Once in 5th position, Shawn had a RF tire cut down and had to pit. Luckily there was a caution and Shawn pitted to change tires. After that point the car was never the same. Shawn managed to stay out of enough trouble to finish the race in 14th. Congrats to unofficial "teammate" Craig Slaunwhite and our ol' race crew the Atlantic Cat team for winning the esteemed race!!!

Race Weekend #12: Carquest 100 at Raceway Park

The countdown to the end of the season is on and it seems like it was barely even here! Finally a weekend of beautiful weather and what better place to be in the sun than PEI. Shawn and the rest of the Dexter Construction team was not happy to discover a power steering leak right at the beginning of first practice on Saturday, August 23rd. The team worked hard to fix the problem and was able to make it out at the very end of the first practice - just long enough to post the fastest time. A few more adjustments and a problem with the shifter corrected, it was time for time trials. Shawn posted a time of 13.483 seconds, 7th quickest on the board and drew 5th position for the Dash. Finishing 6th, Shawn started the feature in 6th and moved little throughout the whole feature finishing 4th. Although the one groove track has improved, it is still very difficult to pass. Happy to keep the car in one piece, the O-Team is looking forward to their final 3 races of the season.

Race Weekend #11: Scott Kelly Memorial 100 at Riverside Speedway

Back again in Antigonish and always a pleasure to run the beautiful Riverside Speedway. Although the 0-Team loves the historical track, the 0-Team does not love the rain or the bad luck we had on Saturday. Because of the smash-up at Scotia Speedworld during the Atlantic Cat 250, Shawn and the team prepared the old Chevrolet Impala from last year for the Scott Kelly Memorial 100. Problems started early for Shawn with an immediate error in the power steering of the Dexter Construction car during first practice. The remainder of the scheduled practice sessions were rained out as Shawn and the team tried to fix the power steering in the car. A late and quick 15 minute practice in the day gave Shawn the opportunity to try the car, discover the steering was still not quite right but drivable. Shawn time-trialed 9th quickest placing him in the Dash where a bleed broke on the right rear wheel, sending Shawn into the wall. The time between the Dash and the feature race was spent fixing numerous problems but the car was ready in time to race. After too many long cautions and a misty rain, the race was called at 77 laps. Shawn was currently in 9th so that is where he finished. Congrats to #23s Craig Slaunwhite on his first Maritime Pro Stock Tour win!

Race Weekend #10: The Atlantic CAT 250 at Scotia Speedworld

Always a favorite race among drivers and fans - the Atlantic Cat 250 took place August 9th at Scotia Speedworld. The 0-Team was looking forward to the race as it was the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) only visit to Canada for 2008. After starting out well with the Atlantic Cat 250 in 2004 and 2005 with 2 top ten finishes, Shawn was hoping to get on the podium for the esteemed race in 2008. After a somewhat struggling day with the car, the 0-Team thought we might be good to compete against the highly competitive Americans with a good draw, a little luck, and a decent car. Shawn drew the Pole for the first heat and finished 2nd, placing him in the 3rd starting position. The first 100 or so laps weren't bad with Shawn hovering around 4th and 5th position. Ready to pit for tires in the next caution, unfortunately the next caution involved Shawn. A car spun on the backstretch and the pack Shawn was in had no where to go, causing a number of cars to head for the pits and not come back. Shawn did significant damage to the rear end as well as the front - putting a hole in the radiator. Looks like the spare car will be used for the next MPST race in Antigonish.

Race Weekend #9: The Lucas Oil 150 at Centre for Speed

Shawn and the #0 Team were anxiously awaiting the Lucas Oil 150 at the Centre for Speed in Shediac, NB, as Shawn has always run fairly good at the track but never with the Dexter Construction team. Luckily, an open practice was held Saturday night so Shawn could feel out the car on the track before race day. The car felt good but needed a few tweaks to make it perfect. Once Sunday arrived it threatened rain all day but held off long enough for half of the race day to get through. Shawn was quick in all three practices and time trialed 5th quickest on the grid, drawing the 3rd place starting position for the Dash. Shawn won the dash and therefore the pole position for the race - which is rain-delayed until Saturday, Sept 6th.

Race Weekend #8: The Parts for Trucks 100 at Speedway 660

On Saturday, July 26th, the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour made their final visit to Speedway 660 in Geary, NB. The #0 Team was happy to be back as the first MPST race at Speedway 660 seen Shawn win his 2nd race of the 2008 season. The day started out right with Shawn running fast in all three practices and time trialing 2nd quickest with a time of 13.609 seconds. Unfortunately Shawn then drew 9th for the Dash but did finish 7th. The start of the race didn't go so well for Shawn as on a caution the #0 Impala SS quit and would not start. Getting a push into the pits both the Dexter and CAT teams discovered carburetor problems. After a quick fix Shawn made it back out just before the restart of the race but without a hood. On the next caution Shawn came back in to ensure all problems were fixed and the hood could go back on. Heading back out at the back of the pack Shawn slowly worked his way towards the front and ended up racing Dave O'Blenis for 3rd position.

Race Weekend #7: IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway

The 0-Team was ready and waiting for the big Antigonish super race weekend and Riverside per usual did not disappoint. With an impressive crowd of fans, two nights of racing, and a very full campground of trailers - the IWK 250 is something every Maritime racer and race fan looks forward to. Once again NASCAR rookie Regan Smith joined the competition and brought along his Dale Earnhardt Inc. teammate Aric Almirola. Saturday started early with pits opening at 8:00am but rain played havoc with the practice schedule throughout the day. Luckily, the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour was able to organize three practice sessions and stay somewhat on schedule. The Dexter Construction Impala SS was good all day - Shawn posted fastest time in the first practice, 2nd quickest in the 2nd, and 3rd in the 3rd practice. Shawn was happy with the car and able to qualify 3rd quickest for time trials. He then drew 6th for the dash and stayed there for a starting position in the main feature. Once the busy autograph session and driver introductions were through, the race got started and cars dropped like flies. Shawn was cruising for about 70 laps when a smash-up in turn 3 & 4 caused a Left Rear flat, wheel damage to the Right Front tire, a bent pan hard bar, broken drive shaft, and bend to the car frame. The 0-Team with help from the 23, 26, and 52 pit crews were able to right all the wrongs and get Shawn back out on the lead lap. From there Shawn stayed out of trouble, picked his way along to the front, and finished in an astounding 2nd place finish to Regan Smith! Way to go pit crew and Shawn!

Race Weekend #6: Forbes 150 at Scotia Speedworld

Back at his home track, #0 Shawn Turple competed in the Forbes 150 at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, July 5. Having an ok day during practice Shawn
time-trialed 6th quickest with a time of 14.646 seconds and drew 9th position for the Dash. Shawn finished 8th in the 10-lap Dash and started 7th in the main feature as John Flemming took the Pole Challenge. The Forbes 150 did not start out pretty for Shawn - with cars checking up on the start of the race Shawn's body on the front of the car got pretty much wrecked. The first few laps were a little iffy as the hood was bent up and blocking Shawn's vision but thankfully a caution came out and gave the #0 team (with some help from our ol' faithful Fraser team) enough time to repair the car enough so Shawn could get back out without going down a lap. The shroud on the Dexter Construction Chevrolet Impala unfortunately was bent and blocking air to the radiator, causing the #0 to overheat. Luckily, another caution allowed Shawn to pit again and let the crew solve the problem. With a lot of action happening within the first 30 laps it looked as though the #0 team might not finish the race let alone finish in the top ten. Surprisingly, the #0 wasn't that bad and Shawn stayed calm, slowly moving his way to the front. With 30 laps to go in the 150-lap feature it appeared as though Shawn might have even been in contention for a win or top three finish! The competition as always was tight however so in the end Shawn finished 4th, but with all that went wrong so early in the race it felt like a win for the team!

Race Weekend #5: Parts for Trucks 100 at Raceway Park

On June 28 the Maritime Pro Stock Tour ventured over to Prince Edward Island for the Parts for Trucks 100 at Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge. The #0 Team had a bit of an off weekend time-trialing 18th out of the 29-car field and qualifying to start the race in 15th position. Raceway Park still remains a tough track to pass on although the new pavement laid last year certainly has improved the track. Slowly but surely Shawn edged forward squeaking out a 9th place finish.

Race Weekend #4: Carquest 100 at Speedway 660

On Saturday, June 21, the Maritime Pro Stock Tour made their first of two visits to the newly named "Speedway 660". Although New Brunswick International Speedway may have a new name - it's still Shawn's favorite track to race. Shawn had a lucky day on Saturday with a great crew behind him, a fast car, and no trouble. Shawn was fastest in the first practice of the day and then 2nd fastest during time trials with a time of 13.543 seconds. He then drew the pole position for the Dash - won it and started the Carquest 100 main feature on the pole. An amazing race ensued with Shawn and the #44 Wayne Smith jockeying back and forth for the lead. In the end a final caution seen Shawn restart on the grippy outside groove and take the lead one last time for the win!

Race Weekend #3: Ron MacGillivray Chev 100 at Riverside Speedway

The #0 Team was more than happy to get back to the beautiful Riverside Speedway on June 7 for the 2nd of 11 Maritime Pro Stock Tour races in 2008. The Dexter Construction Impala SS was fast all day and time trialed 9th on the grid to just make the Dash for the Pole. Shawn was able to gain two positions in the Dash and start 7th for the main feature. Shawn was edging his way towards the front when a caution came out and race control seen Shawn as the perpetrator - sending him all the way to the back of the 28-car field. Shawn carefully drove the #0 all the way back up to around 6th position when he made a mistake and spun the rookie #18 Darren MacKinnon. Once again Shawn was sent to the back of the pack and had to try to work his way back up through to the front. In the end if there had been another 50 laps to the race Shawn might have gotten a better finish but settled for 16th. Can't wait to revisit Riverside on July 19th for the big IWK250!

Race Weekend #2: Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld

It's been two months since the 0-Team's first race of the season and the race result was well worth the wait. On Saturday, May 24, the Maritime Pro Stock Tour's season opener at Scotia Speedworld got underway. After a quick shake-down on Monday, the car and Shawn were ready to race. Shawn posted 2nd quickest time in the first practice & fastest time in the 2nd. Then the rain came & delayed the show for a few hours. So with a late start & a green track time trials got underway. Shawn posted the 11th quickest time of 14.969 seconds and therefore started on the pole of the 2nd heat. Shawn pulled away on the heat stating the car "felt good". Once the Lucas Oil 100 got underway at around 11:00pm, we all knew it was going to be a looonnnggg night. The first race of the season on a track with little grip, made for a race riddled with cautions & one very long red flag stop. However, the racing in the front of the pack was anything but boring & kept the fans on the edge of their cold & damp seats. Shawn worked his way to the front, passing the race leader & pole sitter on the outside on lap 79 & hung onto the lead until it meant something. First win since the big grand re-opening of Riverside Speedway in 2006! What a way to start 2008! Kudos to the fans for sticking around until the end of the race & to Scotia Speedworld on the improvements made over the winter.

Race Weekend #1: Early Start to '08 Season - Dexter Racing visits "The Birthplace of NASCAR Stars"

The Dexter Racing team was so excited for the 2008 race season we decided to start it early, travelling all the way to Hickory, North Carolina, for the PASS South season opener at Hickory Motor Speedway. "The Easter Bunny 150" on March 21 & 22 proved to be a worthwhile trip for the team, as Shawn faired pretty good against some of the top Super Late Model teams in the US of A. Open practice on Friday was a great opportunity to break-in the brand new Impala SS and a chance for Shawn to get use to the track. Dexter racing was on par with the rest of the 44-car field, and ready for race day with a few key changes in mind to try first thing Saturday morning. Saturday's first practice session was a busy one, & with 4 brand new practice tires on the car, the #0 was quick, 3rd quickest actually - until two cars got tangled up in turn 1 directly in front of Shawn. With no where to go Shawn was involved in the crash & with that, missed the rest of practice for the day fixing the car. The entire front right-side was wrecked & needed to be completely replaced. Brake lines, upper & lower control arms, strut rod, spindle, upper control arm mounts, all had to be replaced & the nose, fenders, & duct work fixed. With the help of the #35 & #8 crew, Shawn was able to make it out for time trials - on stickers. Surprisingly, out of 44 cars - Shawn most definitely the only car on brand new tires (not scuffed), he time trialed 14th quickest with a time of 15.058 seconds. The top 20 cars out of time trials were locked into the race so we were definitely happy knowing that after the morning we had we were guaranteed to start the race.

Hickory is a fast track with Super Late Models turning an average speed of 97 miles per hour. So with as many good cars and drivers as there were, it was a tight race. Shawn hovered around 10th-16th position for the first 65 laps until a tangle in turn 2 was unavoidable. Shawn brought the #0 car into the pits where the team removed the damage right front fender & hood. Back out on the lead lap Shawn worked his way slowly up to 10th position & that's where he finished. Considering the competition, as well as the day we had, we couldn't complain! We were just happy to be racing in March!
