Anxiously waiting for Saturday & praying for sunny weather!!!

May 21, 2008 - After a quick shake-down on Monday of the new Dexter Construction 2008 Impala SS, the #0 Team is ready for the Maritime Pro Stock Tour's season opener at Scotia Speedworld this Saturday. Although the team had an early start in March to the 2008 race season at the Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina, it's been a long winter. After just narrowly missing the 2007 Maritime Pro Stock Tour Points Championship, the #0 Team is ready to go to battle. "I can't wait," Driver Shawn Turple says, "car owner Stevie Henderson and I have been working very hard on the car and were ready for an onslaught on the competition." Sounds like Turple means business.

The competition is not something to take lightly on the Maritime Pro Stock Tour, as a full field is always expected and every team goes to the track prepared to win. Saturday's season opener is a 100 lap race you won't want to miss!

Shawn to Start 2008 Race Season Early

March 10, 2008 – Shawn Turple’s 2008 race season will start early this year and it won’t be in the snow-covered Maritimes – or anywhere else in Canada for that matter. Turple, along with car owner Stephen Henderson and five crew members, will make the trek to North Carolina next week to compete in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model South season opener on March 22nd at the well-known Hickory Motor Speedway.

The 3rd Annual Easter Bunny 150 will mark the third year the PASS South Series has been underway and will be Turple’s first PASS South series race. 2008 is scheduled to be Turple’s fourth full-time pro-stock season and he can’t wait to get it started, “It’s very exciting to be able to go racing in March and to have the opportunity to race at such a historic track.”

Turple joined the Dexter Construction Pro Stock team in 2007 and is happy with the outcome, “Stevie and the guys were great with welcoming me to the team and I think we really meshed well last season, we really had a great year and I just can’t wait to get a head start on 2008.”

Turple led the Maritime Pro Stock Tour points race for the majority of 2007, and ended up with a solid 2nd place finish. However, Turple’s thoughts are not focused on the Maritimes for the time being – as he understands the competition he is heading into next week. “The competition at Hickory is definitely going to be the toughest I’ve faced yet on a track I’ve never even seen. We hear it’s a mix between New Brunswick International Speedway in Fredericton and the Centre for Speed in Shediac, New Brunswick, so I’m prepared for some banking on a tight track where you’re constantly turning.”

The Dexter Construction team has a brand new car for the race; a 2008 Distance Racing Chasis Impala SS. The team is ready to go with plans to head down on Wednesday, March 19th and arrive just in time for open practice on Friday, followed by qualifying and the main feature on Saturday, March 22nd.

Shawn Looking forward to Final Points Race & Peterbilt 250

Shawn and the #0 Dexter Construction team can't wait until the final points race of the season. On Sept 8th, the winner of the Maritime Pro Stock Tour Points Championship will be crowned. With a tight race between the top 5 drivers, it's anybody's championship until the checkered flag waves after 200 laps. In the meantime, the team plans on having some fun at Shawn's all-time favorite maritime track - New Brunswick International Speedway. This long weekend sees the Peterbilt 250 take place on Sunday, Sept 2nd. The winner takes home $15,000 as well as a bonus of $50 per lap to lead. Be sure to watch Shawn compete with the best pro stock drivers around in this high profile event - even a couple of Nascar guys will be there! Visit www.nbisonline.com for all the details.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 16, 2007 - Shawn Turple will have a new teammate for this weekend's IWK
250 at Riverside Speedway in James River, Nova Scotia: Cassius Clark, a Pro
All Stars Series (PASS) regular will borrow the #0 Team's spare car for the
much anticipated race of the summer. Clark, who hails from Maine & is a
multiple PASS race winner, has been running the ever-popular crate engine
this season which is great for some tracks but not for Riverside. For the
high-banked "little Bristol" as some would call it, the more power you have
the better and Steve Henderson's Dexter Construction cars have the power
Clark wants.

Turple is looking forward to the race and doesn't mind having his spare car
loaned out to someone he knows will be competitive with it, "Cassius has
been running well in the PASS races since he started 4 or 5 years ago, he's
a good driver and hopefully we'll be able to learn a thing or two from him
and his team. The PASS regulars always seem to be a step ahead of us when
they come to Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, so I'm hoping we'll be able to
keep up with them at the end of the race at Riverside Speedway."

Both cars are built by Distance Racing in Maine, the car Clark will run is
the same car Gordie Ryan ran full-time last year in the Maritime Pro Stock
Tour and Shawn has used a couple of times this season. Turple will be
running the brand new car he took to Antigonish once this year already and
used for the PASS Forbes 200 at Scotia Speedworld in June - which he earned
a 5th place finish in. Turple is currently the Maritime Pro Stock Tour
points leader and is still waiting on a win this season. Turple earned his
first pro stock win last year at Riverside Speedway's grand re-opening.

Norman Hingley has won the Coastal Auto Glass IWK 250 ticket draw!!!

July 13 - Coastal Auto Glass purchased two premium reserved seats for the IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway to go towards the Shawn Turple race team by way of a draw. Tickets were sold over the last few weeks with all the profits going to help Shawn Turple in his pro stock racing career. Special thanks to Coastal Auto Glass for their generous donation, call Coastal for all your auto glass needs at your home, office, or on the road - their mobile service is free! Call 225-9696 for a professional job well-done!

Congrats Norman - we'll see you at Riverside Speedway July 21st for the PASS IWK 250!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shawn Turple is Changing Race Teams

June 1, 2007 Enfield, N.S. – When opportunity knocks, Shawn Turple opens the door. With news of Gordie Ryan no longer driving for the #67 Dexter Construction Pro Stock team, Shawn approached Team Owner, Steve Henderson, with a simple question: “Where do I put my resume?” Steve was interested.

With Frank Fraser’s encouragement, Shawn approached Steve about driving the Distance Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo as soon as he knew the opportunity was there. With strong sponsor support, Shawn knew a full season of racing would be more than just a possibility; “The past few years with Frank and the guys has been so much fun and such a learning curve. I can’t thank them and Atlantic Cat enough for the overwhelming support, education, and encouragement they’ve given me,” Says Shawn, “But with money tight for the ‘07 season, a full schedule was not in the works. The plan was to see how we made out for the first few Maritime Pro Stock Tour races and go from there. With an indefinite like that and Frank’s encouragement, I jumped at the opportunity to get a ride full-time.”

Since Shawn has started the MPST already with a cool 4th place finish in Frank Fraser’s Atlantic Cat #0 car at the Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld on May 26, he has to keep the #0 to retain his points and tires. The MPST has strict rules about how many tires race teams can receive to help control costs of running the tour and encourage drivers to race full-time. If Shawn drove the Dexter Construction Monte Carlo with the #67, he would only be allowed two tires at the upcoming Riverside Speedway race in Antigonish on June 9. But, if he puts his #0 on the car, he gets four tires – which in stock car racing, makes a huge difference.

With Frank’s permission and Steve in agreement, Shawn will take the #0 with him for the 2007 season, “It only makes sense for Shawn to have the number,” Says Frank “I mean if he can’t keep his points from the first race or tires, then he certainly would be at a disadvantage and wouldn’t be doing any points racing.” Frank goes on to show his support for Shawn’s move by saying, “The deal with Shawn first started because we knew he was a good driver and just needed the opportunity to enter into the pro stock circuit and we were glad to have him aboard. Now, although I’m pleased to see him accepted by a first class team, I am sorry to see him go.”

So with mixed emotions from not only Frank, but Shawn as well, Shawn will move forward with the Dexter Construction team. A shake down session is planned for Friday at Scotia Speedworld of the brand new car built by Distance Racing – a well-known company based out of Maine and owned by Jeff Taylor. Distance Racing has built cars for Mike & Ben Rowe, Cassius Clark, and this year both of Donald Chisholm’s cars. If all goes well during testing on Friday the team will head to Riverside Speedway in Antigonish for their open practice session this Saturday in preparation for next week’s MPST 100 lap race.

Shawn Prepares for First Race of 2007

Shawn and the SFR team have been busily preparing not one car but two for the 2007 season - both Shawn and team owner Frank Fraser are planning to race in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour. The season opener is set for Saturday, May 26th at Scotia Speedworld - only two weeks away. "Nothing is more exciting than a new race season," Shawn says, "Sometimes the winters are so long, it really amps up the anticipation of getting back on the track." Both Shawn's #0 Atlantic Cat car and Frank's #23 have the bodies on and are in the process of getting decaled. The cars will look identical except for a few small details. See the photo gallery for pictures of the cars in the SFR shop. Hopefully in the coming week the boys will be out for a practice and pictures of the cars on the track will be posted. Stay tuned!

Shawn's Championship Sportsman Car has been Sold!

Shawn's Sportsman car may be sold but his number isn't. Shawn sold his car in February to a buyer in Amherst who plans to run the car at Shediac's Centre for Speed. Shawn made the deal to sell his car and various parts to go with it but not his number. Shawn says "They could have the car and all the parts they needed but I thought I'd hang on to my number, so that will have to be changed."

Selling his sportsman car was a hard decision but one Shawn had to make if he wanted to continue in the Pro Stock class. Racing both the Sportsman class and Pro Stock class was just too difficult to do if he wanted to be competitive. "A race car takes a lot of time and commitment if you want to be competitive," Shawn says, "it was just too hard to try to maintain the sportsman and the pro stock and be able to work on both cars at the track when we would be racing both on the same weekend. I wanted to be sure the car wouldn't go to waste and hopefully it won't. It's a good car and has been well-maintained; hopefully the guys that bought it from me will have some luck with it. It always did run well at Shediac."

Shawn will still of course be racing in the Atlantic Cat #0 Pro Stock Car around the Maritimes.

Shawn's last race in the #72 Sportsman in 2005, he was crowned Atlantic Canadian Champion at Shediac, New Brunswick's Centre for Speed.

Shawn & Cassie are Engaged!

Over the Christmas holidays Shawn proposed to long-time girlfriend Cassie and she of course said yes! A date has been set for September 22 of this year. (This date of course was based around the upcoming race season so as to not create any conflicts!) Congratulations to the happy couple.

Old News:

Riverside Speedway One More Time This Season

Shawn and the #72 Sportsman team will be heading down to Antigonish for the PASS weekend. With two sportsman races - one 50 lapper Friday night and another Saturday night, it should be an exciting weekend! It will be interesting to see who survives Friday night for Saturday's race and who will win the mini- points series between the two races. Extra cash is being offered up for whoever has the best two finishes! Can't wait to revisit the all-new and improved track one more time for 2006.

BY THE WAY - if anyone has a decent Pro Stock car that needs a driver for the PASS race you know who to call ;) Shawn Turple 883-9545

Pro Stock Racing Finished for 2006

After the final Maritime Pro Stock Tour race at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, the #0 Atlantic Cat car is in too rough a shape to fix for any more races this season. However, Shawn will continue to race his #72 Sportsman in two more races this season: The Atlantic Stock Car Championships at Shediac's Centre for Speed on October 8th and the Fall Foliage 250 weekend at Antigonish's Riverside Speedway. There are two 50-lap races that weekend: One Friday night and one Saturday. Remember the Sportsman car is for sale so if you're interested in buying now's your chance to see it in action!!!

MPST Season Comes to an End

The Maritime Pro Stock Tour has completed the 2006 season with John Flemming being crowned a three-time Point Champion. Shawn finished 9th in points and looks forward to 2007.

Shawn to Race #99 Sportsman Friday Night

Shawn will be racing Craig Slaunwhite's #99 Sportsman tonight and hopefully bringing home the Points Championship for him at Scotia Speedworld. Craig had made plans long ago to go to Loudon, New Hampshire, to see his first Nascar race so is unable to be there when he wins the Points Championship. Hopefully Shawn will be able to secure the Championship for him although I believe as long as Shawn just tries to qualify for the race, Craig will win. He currently has 107 point lead.

Shawn wins His First Pro Stock Race

Shawn Turple has finally won his first Pro Stock Tour race with the #0 Atlantic Cat Monte Carlo. What a race to win too - the re-opening race at Antigonish's new and improved Riverside Speedway. John Chisolm first built the track nearly 40 years ago and just repurchased it last year to bring it out of disrepair. Everything was improved upon. The stands, the track, the tower, even the campground. The Antigonish Mall 200 proved the track is much faster than before and definitely one of every driver's favorites. Now that Shawn has the monkey off his back, the team feels as though they can relax and continue to race for the win.

Look for Shawn at the huge Irving Oil 250 weekend at NBIS the long weekend, he will again be on double duty - racing his Sportsman Saturday night and the Pro Stock on Sunday.

Atlantic Cat 250 this Weekend

The #0 Atlantic Cat team is excited to participate in our title sponsors PASS North race this weekend at Scotia Speedworld. With the Forbes 200 being cancelled because of rain, Shawn's been anxious to participate in a PASS race. He will also be racing his #72 Sportsman car on Friday night in the Lockhart 100. Qualifying takes place Friday night and the Atlantic Cat 250 is Saturday night. Because of the Forbes race being cancelled, they've put up a $2,000 bonus for the lap leader on lap 200, how cool is that!!! Here's hoping for sunshiny weather! ;)

Trip to the Oxford 250 Cancelled

Our planned race schedule did include the Oxford 250 this year but unfortunately, car owner Frank Fraser has decided that it's not going to happen this year. Unfortunately, the #0 Race team has not been having the year they hoped to and have been experiencing some trouble with getting the setup right on the car or having any luck for that matter at almost all of the races we've participated in. Although we are disappointed as I'm sure many of Shawn's fans are, there is still lots of racing to do and there's always next year.

The team needs to focus on the Maritime Pro Stock Tour plus the PASS races that will be visiting our region. This includes the Atlantic Cat 250 which is fast approaching on August 11th & 12th plus the end of season PASS race which I believe has been switched to Antigonish's Riverside Speedway on October 14th. That weekend should be a good one with the last PASS points race being in Nova Scotia: The Fall Foliage 250. Make sure to book your hotel rooms folks!

Shawn to race #72 Sportsman for the first time this year

Shawn has had some help this week getting the Ol' #72 ready to race. This Friday night Shawn plans to have a shake-down race at Scotia Speedworld. They're Sportsman car count has been low so we thought we better come out for a race while we had the chance. The mint #72 Sportsman is still for sale so any interested buyers are encouraged to come see this car run!

Yarmouth Sportsman Race a NO-GO

Shawn was planning to have his #72 Sportsman ready to head to Yarmouth this coming Sunday for a money race they were planning to do. Unfortunately, not enough interest was found for the event so they were forced to cancel it. Don't worry however, Shawn will make it down to Yarmouth before the Season ends!

PASS Forbes 200 this Saturday

June 20, 2006 - The #0 Pit Crew and Shawn are getting well-prepared for the upcoming Forbes 200 at Scotia Speedworld this Saturday. The boys are getting the car set-up for PASS rules and will be ready for the open practice on Friday between 4 & 7pm. "I'm excited for the Forbes 200 and look forward to having an even better finish than last year," says Shawn, "PASS is such a competitive series and a great field of drivers to race against." Last year Shawn had a great 6th place finish in both the PASS Forbes 200 and Atlantic Cat 250. With plans to attend the Oxford 250 in Maine this year (A PASS sanctioned event) Shawn is truly living his dream of racing with the big boys. Too bad we can't afford one of those modified crate engines like the rest of the fast Americans!

Trip to Oxford Complete - Preparing for Maritime Race Season

May 4, 2006 - The #0 Race Team has finally made its trip to Oxford and are now preparing for the first Maritime Pro Stock Tour Race to take place on June 3rd at Scotia Speedworld. The trip to Oxford Plains Speedway was a worthwhile one with Shawn getting a feel for the track and giving the team a chance to see how new PASS rules will affect future competition. Although we didn't have the best luck in Oxford, it wasn't an overly expensive trip and probably could have been a lot worse. With 34 cars starting the race and only 16 finishing, it isn't such a disappointment that we didn't qualify. For complete race results check out our Race Results page.

The 2006 Season is Fast Approaching

March 6, 2006- The 2006 race season has already started with our American friends and we will soon follow. Exciting plans are underway for the upcoming season, with Shawn planning to test out a few new tracks. First off, Shawn and the #0 Team will start the season at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine on Saturday, April 29th, with the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) season opening 150 lap race. Shawn has never raced at the Oxford Plains Speedway but looks forward to the challenge. Thankfully, Frank Fraser and crew have experienced this track and will be able to guide Shawn in the right direction. If all goes well in April, we plan to visit Oxford once again in July for the Annual Banknorth 250. This race is famous in New England and the Maritimes drawing such big names as Kurt & Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, and rumour is Greg Biffle this year. Qualifying is your only concern when you attend this event.

A few other new tracks Shawn and the team plan to make appearances at this Season are the freshly paved track in Yarmouth and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Although the race schedule in Yarmouth is not yet confirmed, Shawn hopes they will be holding a Pro Stock race sometime in the coming months that won't conflict with our Maritime Pro Stock Tour schedule. Beech Ridge is also not a definite as the PASS 400 Weekend is near the end of the season (September 22 - 24) and our attendance will depend on funds available at that time.

Shawn's 2006 Tentative Schedule can be viewed by clicking here. The Maritime Pro Stock Tour will be Shawn's focus again this year as he sets his sights on a Championship. He won't be the only one, which makes Maritime racing the best in the country.

Shawn to Take Part in Centre for Speed's Speedweekend

Shawn Turple will once again be racing both his #72 Sportsman and the #0 Pro Stock car in the Centre for Speed's 5th Annual Speedweekend on October 8th & 9th. Come cheer on Shawn while he participates in the Sportsman 100 on Saturday at 1pm and the Pro Stock 150 on Sunday at 1pm. It's sure to be an exciting weekend and grand finale for 2005. It may even be the last time you see Shawn pilot the #72 Sportsman as he plans to sell the car along with all of his spare equipment and parts for the sportsman class. 2006 will be a year focused on the pro stock car.

Upcoming Outlaw Race at NBIS to feature Frank Fraser or Shawn Turple

An interesting twist to the story has been made as the SFR crew prepare the SFR Dirt car (which is normally run in Yarmouth) for the Outlaw 100-lap race at New Brunswick International Speedway. Frank Fraser, is suppose to be behind the wheel of the highly modified stock car in Saturday's race, however, he has agreed that if Shawn is faster in practice, then Shawn will drive the car. You might want to take bets on this one because I'm sure it will be a close call. Go to NBIS on Saturday, October 1st, to see what happens! Racing starts at 2pm.

Final Points Race at Scotia Speedworld

Saturday, September 10th, is going to be one exciting day of racing at Scotia Speedworld with the final crowns for the Maritime Pro Stock Tour, the Sportsman Super Series, and the Legends Tour points race's being decided. The Shawn Turple race team is looking forward to racing once again the #72 Eacan Timber Sportsman car in the 50-lap Super Series race and the #0 Atlantic CAT Pro Stock car in the Parts for Trucks 200. Two exciting races to decide who wins the points, rookie of the year, and a number of other high-standing titles. Shawn goes into this weekend with a 5th place standing in the Sportsman Super Series and a 4th place standing in the Pro Stock Tour; he also holds the lead for the Rookie of the Year race. Hopefully all of our season's race fans will be able to make it out for this final race of the year and cheer Shawn on as his makes one more attempt at getting that win he has been so hungry for all season long!

looking Forward to the Upcoming Forbes 200 PASS race & Sportsman 100

On Saturday, June 25th, Scotia Speedworld hosts the first of two PASS races and a C&R Auto Supply Shootout Sportsman 100. The acclaimed Forbes 200 will be Shawn's first PASS race of the season but luckily, it won't be his first ever. Shawn had the opportunity to race in last year's Atlantic CAT 250 and earned an 8th place finish - making him the Top Rookie of the Race and the 2nd top finishing Canadian. This Saturday, Shawn will be on double duty racing his own Sportsman car and the #0 Pro Stock.

Racing 300 laps in one night will be no easy task, but Shawn is definitely up for the challenge: "I'm really excited to be in the PASS race at my home track again because the caliber of racing is so high. The cars have better performance and the racers are experienced. Racing both the PASS and Sportsman classes is definitely going to be hectic, but I'll manage. I have two great pit crews and when it comes down to the wire, that makes all the difference." Look for Shawn at the Friday night Pit Party at Scotia between 5 and 9pm. He'll have autograph cards and stickers for everyone who stops by.

Atlantic  CAT joins the SFR Team

With a little bit of nostalgia and the knowledge that Shawn Turple will be a force to reckon with in the Pro Stock class, Atlantic CAT jumped at the chance to support our team. With this new-found partnership, Frank Fraser, Shawn and the rest of our pit crew can now focus on being completely prepared for the 2005 season. With a lot of work ahead of them, the Fraser's shop will be a busy place for the next month leading up to our first race day of the season, Sunday, May 22nd, at Scotia Speedworld. For the rest of our season schedule, please scroll down to the bottom of the page. Please show your support to Atlantic CAT for their support of our favorite sport!

Shawn Turple to Race Both Classes

Shawn's plans for the 2005 season are finalized. With firm plans to race his championship #72 Sportsman car in Scotia Speedworld's Super Series and in all other major maritime races, he is leaving lots of time to make racing Frank Fraser's SFR car a priority. A recent press release on ScottFraserOnline.com has explained our current situation and goals:
